Hand Quilting - Beginner

Hand quilted quilts are a treasure to be enjoyed for many generations. Don’t let the intricate designs intimidate you, if you can hold a needle, you can hand quilt! 
 
Professional Hand quilter Linda Heitman invites you to spend a fun filled day learning about every aspect of the “Art of Hand quilting”. Linda recently moved to Galveston from South Dakota and has taught hand quilting classes in South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska and Colorado.
 
Topics covered in this class include: tips on selecting the right professional quilter for you; hand quilting through the ages; fabric quality-does it really matter?; fabric selection for hand quilting; tools and equipment; batting types and how to choose the right batting for your particular project; needles-Are they all the same?; Which thread do I use?; quilt design- how to select the quilting pattern to compliment your quilt; marking your quilt top and finally learning to quilt! There will be lots of quilts and quilt tops for “Show and Tell” as well as plenty of accessories to play with! This is an all day class and all supplies will be provided for you except for your thimble and quilting hoop which is available for purchase. Please wait to purchase the thimble until class. Feel free to bring any current projects to add to the fun! Minimum enrollment 4, maximum enrollment 10. 1-day class, $40.00.

Piecing 101 - Beginner

 I wish I could do that!  Here is your chance.  Learn the basics, selecting fabric, rotary cutting, 1/4 inch seams, quilting terms, basic blocks, sashing, and borders.

Paper Piecing & Curved Piecing
One for All Seasons Table Runner – Experienced Beginner

Have you ever wanted to try a Judy Niemeyer pattern but didn’t want to invest the time in selecting lots of fabrics and making a bed size quilt? If so, this class is for you. You will see how wonderful Judy’s patterns are as Theresa Stubbs steps you through the process of cutting your fabric, paper piecing the stars and using curved and traditional piecing to complete the table runner. Gather up a light, a medium, and a dark fabric in your favorite colors and join us for a day. 1-day class, $40.00 pattern required, kits will also be available.



 


CLASS POLICIES
Classes are filled on a first come, first serve basis.
All classes must be paid for in advance.
Class fees are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to other classes.
In the event of insufficient enrollment, you will receive a complete refund.
At the time of registration, you will receive a complete supply list. The cost of supplies is not included in the class fee, unless otherwise noted.
We suggest waiting until a week before class begins before purchasing supplies.
No children or guest are permitted in class.

1st Saturday - Block of Many Colors I
This is how it works.  Starting May 2nd and the following 1st Saturday of each month at precisely 9am (we will open the store at 8:30am for those that would like to come early and share a cup of coffee before the session begins). You will have a seat and we will share new techniques, fabrics, notions, books, and patterns (about 15 minutes). We will then show you the monthly block. For $6.00, you will receive the block instructions and fabric for a 12" block. We will also provide a group tutorial on the block construction (about 20 minutes). You are then welcome to take advantage of an "in store special" just for you.

Now for the exciting part!!! When you return on June 6th, on time, with your finished block, and stay for the new product talk you will receive your next block for free! This will continue for 12-months, which means if you finish your block every month and come on time for our product talk, you will get all 12 blocks for only $6.00.

Due to the nature of this Block of the Month, the rules can never be altered. We cannot make any exceptions for receiving your free block, just come on time with your block finished and you'll receive that months block for free. If at any time you are unable to attend our Saturday Block of Many Colors meeting you can continue the series at an additional cost. Just $6.00 each month will buy the missing patterns and fabrics. Then, just return to the next meeting and continue for FREE.You may do more than one block if you wish,but only one block will be free the following month. The person receiving the free block must be the person who made the block. One free block per participant.
